The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Now Accepting Applications for Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Awards

Since 2000, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized over 100 schools that have developed sound, comprehensive, sustainable Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management plans, demonstrated a commitment to the health of their students and to IAQ, and promoted IAQ practices both in and out of the classroom.

The EPA Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools (IAQ TfS) Awards Program sponsors four awards:

-          The IAQ TfS Great Start Award is for schools and districts that are just beginning to implement the IAQ TfS Program. These awards are presented throughout the year.

-          The IAQ TfS Leadership Award is for schools and districts that have shown significant progress in implementing an IAQ management program. These awards are presented throughout the year.

-          The IAQ TfS Excellence Award is for schools and districts with exemplary IAQ programs and have shown exceptional commitment to good IAQ practices. This is the EPA’s most prestigious IAQ award and the selection process is highly competitive. These awards are presented once a year at the IAQ TfS National Symposium. The deadline for application is September 29, 2006.

-          The IAQ TfS Model of Sustained Excellence Award is a new award and recognizes school districts that demonstrate sustained exemplary IAQ management. Applicants must have been presented with an Excellence Award prior to 2005 and have shown how they maintain and track their short-term and long-term IAQ success. This highly competitive award will be presented once a year at the IAQ TfS National Symposium. The deadline for application is September 29, 2006.
