Participate in Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge, a Back-to-school Event that Focuses on Nutrition and Physical Activity

In support of school districts’ new wellness policies, Action for Healthy Kids has created “Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge,” a tool kit for a back-to-school event that provides the opportunity for students, parents, teachers, administrators, and others to celebrate coming back-to-school with a fresh approach. The Game On! event integrates nutrition, physical activity and learning through a series of fun-filled activity stations that will stimulate minds and bodies and remind the school community of your commitment to, as well as the need for, good wellness practices. Partners are working with districts, communities, and schools to host Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge events in every state culminating with a national event on the afternoon of October 5, 2006, in Washington, D.C.

The Game On! event tool kit contains all of the materials necessary to organize, promote and carryout a Game On! event. It includes:

-          detailed descriptions of the five activity stations, including necessary materials, rules, maps for set-up, etc.;

-          handouts for students so that they can recruit adults to participate;

-          energy in energy out tracker worksheets;

-          tip sheets for volunteer station leaders on how to run the activity and make it a success;

-          suggestions on how to organize volunteers, set up the course, and age appropriate activities;

-          promotional materials such as a template for a flyer;

-          a resources list for more information on wellness issues; and

-          a reporting form to let Action for Healthy Kids know about your event.

All schools and/or community organizations registering to participate in Game On! will receive a free toolkit. The first 100 schools and/or community organizations to register will also receive a ReCharge! Energizing After-School kit at no cost. Once local events have occurred, organizers are encouraged to report back the results of their events. For events that take place between August 1 and October 1, 2006, upon submitting the event reporting form, organizations will be eligible to win one of a variety of school-wellness promoting prizes and receive national recognition.

Action for Healthy Kids in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S Department of Education, the National PTA, and other leading organizations, are working together to inform, motivate, and mobilize support for school wellness – good nutrition and physical activity that supports learning.
