Register for the 2011 American School Health Association Conference

September 14, 2011 – The 2011 American School Health Association (ASHA) Conference will be held from October 12-15 in Louisville, KY and will provide the opportunity for education and school health professionals to explore the future of school health. This year’s theme will be “Limitless Possibilities: School Health in the New Decade.”

The conference will include a session on a successful collaborative project around Coordinated School Health (CSH) that the National School Boards Association (NSBA) conducted with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Kentucky School Boards Association.   The project was carried out in Kentucky during the 2010-2011 academic year with four selected school district level health teams consisting of board members, superintendents, school health coordinators, and others. District teams received technical assistance and support to integrate health-related objectives into their school improvement plans and improve wellness policies.

The session will be presented by the KDE with representation from the school district teams and will share success stories and lessons learned from the project and include interactive group activities as well as use of a sample case study to practice how-to steps for others to apply and/or adapt within their district.  The session will also highlight the steps district teams took during the school year, including developing action plans and implementing health activities as part of their district improvement plans.  In addition, the session will present an overview/rationale for the partnership project in Kentucky as well as resources for information and technical assistance.
